ELSECAR WARTIME WEEKEND

30-31 August 2008 - Elsecar Heritage Railway

South Yorkshire

Foreign Field present Elsecar Heritage Railway's Wartime Weekend in association with Elsecar Railway Preservation Group.

The award winning Elsecar Heritage Centre is an exciting History and Craft Centre, set in the attractive conservation village of Elsecar and surrounded by beautiful South Yorkshire countryside. The Centre is located within the former ironworks and colliery workshops of the Earls Fitzwilliam, where visitors can explore the attractively restored buildings and monuments, wander alonside the Dearne and Dove Canal and follow footpaths including a branch of the Trans-Pennine Trail.

This two-day event features a Foreign Field Battle for the liberation of the train station, as well as ongoing Living History Camps through both days.

All of the Living Exhibitions are hands on and the public are invited to try the unforms and vehicles of both Axis and Allied Forces.

Musical Entertainment is provided by the Moonlight Serenaders periodically throughout the day.

As well as the popular and explosive battle display, arena based displays will include the Gunnery Show, The Resistance and the opportunity for young visitors to fall in and volunteer for service.

This year we hope to be featuring a life size replica Spitfire and the opportunity to have photographs taken in the cockpit.

The Heritage Centre are staging an evening dance with the Ockbrook Big Band in the evening.

This promises to be a spectacular day out for all the family.
