The Home Front

The Second World War affected everyone rather than just those who were drafted and volunteered. For the six years, and thereafter, life changed dramatically for those who kept the home fires burning.

When Foreign Field bring the Second War alive we do this right down to the Home Front Living History.

Men of the Home Guard and Air Raid Patrol Corps as well as the ladies of the ATS, WRNS, QARNNS and Women’s Volunteer Service feature in our camps to bring the Home Front back for your visitors and veterans alike.

Your visitors and their children are invited to watch as the new recruits train for their inevitable departure to Normandy.

Learn about the laws of the time and the effects of rationing on the populace not to mention the constant threat of bombardment and invasion.

Behind the scenes the Auxiliary Volunteer Force operates and trains as Britain’s last line of defence should the planned Nazi invasion ever succeed.

As with all Foreign Field Living History Displays, all our interpreters will get involved with the public and share the experiences of Britain at War.
