Archery and Firepower Displays

Archers were the backbone of the English medieval army and rightfully feared all across Europe.

The Archery and Firepower Display demonstrates the skills of the archer in not only accuracy on the battlefield but also in speed shooting. The medieval archer could average 15-18 arrows a minute and keep a constant rain of arrows coming down on their opponents.

As well as demonstrating the power of the English Longbow we will also compare and contrast it with the European Crossbow and the first medieval guns. The first recorded casualty of the gun was as early as 1415 at the Battle of Agincourt.

This show shoots the bows, fires the guns, shows off the speeds and demonstrates how the English longbowman can take down an advancing bill line before they reach combat.

After the demonstration the archers and gunners remain behind to answer questions and invite the public to get more up close and personal with the weaponry and equipment.

Do the children there have the strength to draw a medieval bow?
