500 Years of the Stafford Knot

25th-26th September 2010

The Staffordshire Regiment Museum

Whittington Barracks, Lichfield Staffordshire.

For the first of our two events at Whittington Barracks this year we are proud to announce our salute to 500 years of fighting under the Stafford Knot Banner. Going back to the mid 15th Century under Henry Stafford Duke of Buckingham and crossing half a century to the Second World War the Stafford Knot has flown over military triumph and tragedy throughout history.

As the Staffords have merged to become the Mercian Regiment we see them off with a pageant of their history.

The Staffordshire Regiment collection tells the story of the Regiment and its forebears from its formation in Lichfield in 1705. It includes uniforms, equipment, weapons, medals (including 8 of the Regiment's 13 VC sets) and a children's hands-on area & quiz.

Outside there are armoured vehicles, two Anderson Shelters and 100 yards of 1st WW trench with sound effects & No-Mans-Land.
